  • 3. Hyper G Soft mains / round soft co-poly crosses (ghost wire/cream/swift/etc etc) 4. Natural Gut Mains (51 or 52 lbs) / round soft co-poly as above (around 46-47) 4 will likely remain playable the longest. All should be comfortable (except maybe 1 depending on your arm).

  • There's a small following for Head Velocity (full bed or hybrid with a soft co-poly) because of its decent spin for a multi, low-mid power, muted feel; all of which are not typical traits of multi. But it is comfortable and holds its tension well. Try stringing three racquets with three different s-gut/multi and play with them.

  • Tour Bite "Firmer than both Hyper-G and Confidential, this co-poly gives big hitters the needed control to go nuclear from the baseline. Tour Bite also comes with a low-friction surface and reinforced construction, giving it both the ability to snap back during impact (think big spin) along with the durability to withstand advanced ball striking.

  • Best spin string: Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable. Although virtually every polyester string on the market is great for generating spin, Ultra Cable by Weiss Cannon is the pick of the litter. Nearly everything about this string, from its ultra grippy edges and powerful snapback to its surgical control on upward cuts, belongs in the dictionary under spin.

  • It feels smooth and relatively soft for a crisp co-poly - not soft like a Synthetic Gut or Multi mind you - but not too wirey. Technifibre says they uses polyurethane additives and makes use of their Thermacore Tech. a multi-stage heating technique designed to soften the structure and reduce harsh impact vibrations.

  • It's a very slick round poly, with great tension maintenance, and very soft. This helps with snap back of the mains, and softens the poly's I use them with. When I use it with Nat Gut, I'm able to string it up in the high 50s (usually 57 or 58) to better match the tension I use for the gut (60-62 depending whether it's summer or winter).

  • In my tennis pursuits, I've even talked to kids who have come down with tennis elbow while using poly. One afflicted slugger even used the LM Prestige mids (these are especially soft and hefty) and hit a two-handed backhand. After he switched to multi, he managed to stay healthy. Personally, I've seen enough that I'm not going to tempt fate.

  • The Pro Edge fits nicely as a more playable co-polyester, which the new generation delivers. Sonic Pro Edge does not disappoint, it’s a notch better than similar tennis strings of the same value when it comes to comfort and playability. However, the string isn’t soft enough for gut strings and natural gut strings fans.
